Task Description
Complete carburetor rebuild including cleaning, replacement of gaskets and seals, and proper adjustment for optimal engine performance and fuel economy.
Parts Required
- Carburetor rebuild kit (gaskets, seals, needle valve, float)
- Carburetor cleaner solution
- Compressed air
- New fuel filter
- Fresh fuel
Tools Needed
- Small screwdrivers (flat and Phillips)
- Carburetor cleaning bath or ultrasonic cleaner
- Compressed air
- Fine wire for jet cleaning
- Small brushes
- Clean rags
- Safety glasses
- Gloves
Procedure
- Remove air filter assembly
- Disconnect fuel line (have container ready)
- Disconnect throttle and choke linkages
- Remove carburetor from manifold
- Disassemble carburetor carefully, noting positions
- Photo or diagram float height before removal
- Clean all parts in carburetor cleaner
- Clear all jets with compressed air
- Check float for damage or fuel inside
- Replace all gaskets and seals from kit
- Reassemble with correct float height
- Install carburetor with new base gasket
- Reconnect all linkages and fuel line
- Start engine and warm up
- Adjust idle speed and mixture
- Test acceleration and overall running
Notes
The Haflinger typically uses a simple single-barrel carburetor. Take photos during disassembly to aid reassembly. Mark or note any adjustment screw positions before changing them.
