Task Description

Complete carburetor rebuild including cleaning, replacement of gaskets and seals, and proper adjustment for optimal engine performance and fuel economy.

Parts Required

  • Carburetor rebuild kit (gaskets, seals, needle valve, float)
  • Carburetor cleaner solution
  • Compressed air
  • New fuel filter
  • Fresh fuel

Tools Needed

  • Small screwdrivers (flat and Phillips)
  • Carburetor cleaning bath or ultrasonic cleaner
  • Compressed air
  • Fine wire for jet cleaning
  • Small brushes
  • Clean rags
  • Safety glasses
  • Gloves

Procedure

  1. Remove air filter assembly
  2. Disconnect fuel line (have container ready)
  3. Disconnect throttle and choke linkages
  4. Remove carburetor from manifold
  5. Disassemble carburetor carefully, noting positions
  6. Photo or diagram float height before removal
  7. Clean all parts in carburetor cleaner
  8. Clear all jets with compressed air
  9. Check float for damage or fuel inside
  10. Replace all gaskets and seals from kit
  11. Reassemble with correct float height
  12. Install carburetor with new base gasket
  13. Reconnect all linkages and fuel line
  14. Start engine and warm up
  15. Adjust idle speed and mixture
  16. Test acceleration and overall running

Notes

The Haflinger typically uses a simple single-barrel carburetor. Take photos during disassembly to aid reassembly. Mark or note any adjustment screw positions before changing them.
